The October SAT scores release date is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026: students who took the SAT on Oct. 3 will see their scores that day, according to the College Board's score release schedule. High school counselors can see the same results in the College Board's K-12 reporting portal on Oct. 19.

The timing matters for seniors. Early decision and early action deadlines arrive in early November, and the registration deadline for the next SAT, on Nov. 7, is Oct. 23. Students have about a week after seeing their October SAT scores to decide whether to retake.

October SAT Scores Release Date and Other Fall Dates

  • Oct. 3 SAT: scores released Oct. 16, 2026.
  • Nov. 7 SAT: scores released Nov. 20, 2026.
  • Dec. 5 SAT: scores released Dec. 18, 2026.

The College Board says most scores from weekend tests are released two to four weeks after test day. Students who took the SAT during school this October follow a different schedule set by their school's testing date, with the first in-school results reaching students on Oct. 22.

How to Check Your October SAT Scores

  • Online: sign in to your College Board account on the SAT scores site.
  • On your phone: U.S. students 13 and older who gave a mobile number can see scores in the College Board's BigFuture School app.
  • Through your school: counselors get official PDF score reports in the K-12 portal starting Oct. 19.

Your report shows your total score, your Reading and Writing and Math section scores and how you performed across question types. That breakdown is the most useful part if you plan to test again.

Sending Scores Before Early Deadlines

Many early decision and early action applications are due Nov. 1, and some colleges moved the date to Nov. 2 this year because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday. We list several of those schools in Early Decision Deadlines 2026. Here is how score sending works, according to the College Board:

  • Free score sends: each time you register for a weekend SAT, you can send scores to up to four colleges free of charge.
  • Nine-day window: you can add, change or remove those free recipients until nine days after your test date. For the Oct. 3 test, that window has already closed, so new recipients now cost a fee.
  • Fee waivers: students with an SAT fee waiver can send unlimited score reports for free.
  • Processing time: colleges receive scores on their own schedule, and processing times vary by school.

If your early deadline is close, send scores as soon as you decide which results to share, and check each college's admissions page. Some colleges accept self-reported scores at the application stage and only require official reports after you enroll.

Should You Retake the SAT in November?

The next test date is Nov. 7, 2026. The College Board's dates and deadlines page lists:

  • Registration deadline: Oct. 23, 2026.
  • Late registration and changes: Oct. 27, 2026, with an extra fee.
  • Device loans: students who need to borrow a testing device must request it at least 30 days before test day, so that option has passed for Nov. 7.

A retake makes the most sense if your score is below the middle range at colleges on your list, or if your practice tests suggest you can improve. If you are applying early, ask each college whether it will accept November scores for its early round before you register.

With three weeks between score release and the November test, focus on the section and question types your report shows as weakest. What About the PSAT?

Juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT this fall are on a separate schedule. We break down those dates and National Merit cutoffs in PSAT Scores 2026.

What Students Should Do Now

  • Check your scores on Oct. 16 and download your score report.
  • Decide on a retake by Oct. 23, the Nov. 7 registration deadline.
  • Send scores early for Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 deadlines, and confirm each college's policy.
  • Talk to your counselor about whether your score strengthens your application or whether to apply test-optional where allowed.

Dates are from the College Board's score release and SAT deadlines pages as of Oct. 14, 2026. Check your College Board account for your own score status.
